Forge your own path in musical studies with a program that focuses on the critical study of music and its contexts, with special attention to one or more of the fields of musicology, ethnomusicology and theory. Students earning a Bachelor of Arts in Music with a concentration in Musicology, Ethnomusicology and Theory embark on an interdisciplinary and flexible approach to the critical study of music and its contexts. Possible topics of focus include: in musicology, the historical study of Western art music and of musical meaning; in ethnomusicology, the exploration of global musical traditions; and, in music theory, the in-depth analysis of musical compositions. The curriculum offers the opportunity to pursue musical performance as well as coursework in departments such as English, Anthropology and Philosophy. With a solid liberal arts education and a focus on music, students graduate with the skills to continue on to graduate school or to enter a range of professions.
