Modern European Studies

This course allows you to combine your passion for language learning with your curiosity for exploring the past. Through combining one or two European languages with history you’ll gain access not only to additional source texts, but also a whole new way of understanding the societies and cultures of contemporary Europe. French, Spanish, German, Russian, Portuguese, and Serbian/Croatian languages are offered by this program. You’ll spend two thirds of your time in the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures studying your language(s). The final third will be spent on your selected modules in the Department of History.

IB of 32 is required with 5 at Higher Level or 6 at Standard Level (B Programme) in at least one of French, German, Russian or Spanish if you intend to study two languages. Students without an A level in one of these languages can study German, Russian or Spanish as a single language. For 2021 entry, the application fee is 20 GBP for a single choice, or 26 GBP for more than one choice. This program only accepts candidates who have completed 12 years of school education. Requirements may differ depending on the country you are located in. Otherwise, you are advised to complete 1 year of Bachelor's degree in your country or choose between International Foundation and International Year One programs.
