The American Studies Department at UMass Boston stands with those fighting for racial justice in the United States and around the world. We honor the legacy of Black resistance to systemic racism in American history. We affirm the value of Black lives, and we commit ourselves to using our voices to speak out against anti-Black racism in the classroom, the university, and the community. We recognize the ways that institutions, even universities, have perpetuated systemic racism, and we stand alongside our Black students and colleagues who have been called upon to expend endless energy fighting against its pernicious force.
