Master of Arts (Hons)

On this course you can study anything from introductory film studies to Film Noir, Shakespeare to science fiction, Victorian novels to Hollywood films, or Romantic poetry to art cinema. For the English modules we start by covering topics such as how to analyse a poem and how to read a novel as a literary critic, moving on to historical surveys of literature. We then explore in more detail many of the periods, movements and topics previously covered. For the film modules we start with a study of film from its origins, exploring key film techniques and genres, before moving on to study classic Hollywood film, international cinemas, and Film Noir.
