Bachelor of Medical Sciences (Hons) Intercalated

Studying medicine gives you a clear path to becoming a doctor, but what if you’d like the opportunity to study a specific topic in more detail or explore a more lab-based or theoretical area of medicine? This is where an intercalated degree could be of benefit. As the world becomes more globalised, international health is an area of huge importance for healthcare professionals worldwide. This course will give you an insight into international relations and politics from around the world, while also allowing you to explore the cycle of poverty in Scotland and the effect that has on more local populations. You'll learn about the impact healthcare policy can have on individuals and groups and how healthcare compares across the world. You will also have the opportunity to work with a hospital we have strong links with in Malawi - some of our students have even travelled here to carry out research projects and have gained an insight into how healthcare works in a low-income setting.

In order to progress to this program, Pathway program is required first. For Unibroad applicants, the application fee of 150GBP will be waved. All prices are estimated for previous years and are subject to change. The intercalated degree is an extra year’s study usually inserted between the second and third years of the medical course with the aim of studying a subject at greater depth.
