Master of Arts / Thesis Program

The Master of Arts (M.A.) program in comparative literature offers a theoretically driven and interdisciplinary approach to the study of literature and other artistic media in a global context, across time periods, subjects and genres. The program gives students a strong grounding in recent methodologies and critical debates in comparative literature, and also an opportunity to conduct research in multiple languages, including Russian, Italian, German, French and Arabic. The M.A. program is a two-year degree program. Students take courses in the first year, and conduct research and complete a thesis in the second year under the supervision of select faculty members. The program is especially designed to encourage students to conduct research on Ottoman and Modern Turkish literature in a broad comparative framework.

A non-refundable application fee is required. This course is carried out with a thesis at the end of the studies. A writing sample, demonstrating the applicant’s skill in literary analysis and knowledge of critical approaches, is required as a part of the application process.
