The general anthropology major, for which a B.A. degree is awarded, prepares students for advanced work that can lead to college teaching, museum work, and/or research, as well as careers in non-academic settings. For students interested in a strong liberal arts background, the general major is an excellent program which can be adapted to varied professional and career goals. Internship opportunities provide students with hands-on work experience. Students can major in Anthropology with Elementary Education Certification and then be qualified to teach grades K-6 in New Jersey Public Schools. Students who wish to pursue K-6 teacher certification in Elementary Education must apply and be admitted to the Teacher Education Program. Please visit the Teacher Education Program website for the required sequence of courses and other program requirements, guidelines, and procedures.
