Addictions Counseling

Humanities & Culture / Psychology

Master of Arts

The Addiction Counseling program provides the necessary coursework to prepare counselors to work in a wide range of settings with diverse populations. Addictions counselors typically work in community-based settings, including substance use agencies, clinical mental health facilities, hospitals, community service agencies, and private practice. Graduates are employed in these settings and use their specialized training to aid clients with addictions, co-occurring disorders, and other mental health concerns. Graduates of Addictions Program are able to apply and obtain licensure as both a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC) and Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). The Addictions Counseling program consists of 60 credit hours, including three semesters of fieldwork. Full-time and part-time study are available for students, with most courses offered in the evenings and other arrangements to accommodate work schedules.
